About the correspondent.
Caitlin V. Doornbos is a national-security and foreign-policy correspondent based in Washington, DC, and the editor and founder of The Correspondent — an independent online news desk and twice-weekly video program covering foreign policy, global affairs, and national security.
She covered the beat for The New York Post from the White House, Pentagon, State Department, and Congress, with reporting trips to cover the wars in Ukraine and Israel — embedding with troops on the frontlines and interviewing officials on both sides. She also reported on the ground on mass migration at the U.S. southern border and the political fight over the future of Ukraine military aid.
Caitlin was Stars and Stripes’ sole Pentagon reporter — part of the daily press corps, traveling with the defense secretary and embedding with U.S. forces — and a regular paid contributor for Times Radio in London, where she provided political, cultural, and geopolitical analysis of major U.S. news from an American perspective.
Previously she served as an Indo-Pacific correspondent for Stars and Stripes in Yokosuka, Japan, covering the Navy’s 7th Fleet and China’s rise as a strategic competitor; as a breaking-news reporter at the Orlando Sentinel, where her coverage of the Pulse nightclub shooting contributed to the paper’s 2017 Pulitzer Prize nomination; and as a crime and courts reporter at the Lawrence Journal-World. She holds an M.A. in Defense and Strategic Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso and a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Kansas.
